Check Out the Latest Trends and Hot Ideas for Your Wedding Day
What's hot now? We have kept our eyes and ears open to the latest buzz to give your
wedding day that something extra special. Check out our top recommendations to find
what's just right for you.
1. BLING BLING ON A BUDGET
Every bride deserves to wear diamonds on her big day, but the reality is that we
don't all have a diamond size budget. We have two great ideas for solving that problem,
giving you the bling bling without the price tag.
First, consider having a set of diamond earrings or a diamond necklace be your "something
borrowed." A family member or close friend may be more than happy to loan you a
special piece of jewelry for your wedding day. "Something borrowed," is a long standing
bridal tradition after all. Don't be afraid to ask. It is likely someone would enjoy
the opportunity to be part of the tradition by loaning you something extra special.
Tradition, plus the bling bling. You can't go wrong.
Another alternative is to rent diamonds for the day. Remember that the stars covered
in jewelry for the Oscars also get their Bling on loaner. Now the real thing can
also be yours for the day. Experience Diamonds is a luxury jewelry rental company.

2. MAKE YOUR CEREMONY EXTRA SPECIAL BY HAVING A FAMILY MEMBER OR FRIEND OFFICIATE
Couples have been customizing their ceremonies and vows for some time now, why not
take it a step further and have a family member or friend officiate your ceremony?
If your minister, rabbi, or officiant knows you very well, that is ideal, but instead
of hiring an unknown officiant for the day, a family member or close friend who
knows you best, will add something meaningful and special to your ceremony. Ordination
can be obtained on line. Two sources are
ordination.com and CelebrantUSA.com.
Check local rules or ordinances for compliance.
3. FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE WEDDINGS
Let's face it; the recession has led to a lot of rethinking about expenses. The
New York Observer declared "cheap is the new black." While we agree that cheap is
cool and cheap is hot, we still have a problem with the terms "cheap wedding," or
"budget wedding." We do believe strongly in the concept, but we prefer the term
"financially responsible weddings." Instead of lush and extravagant productions,
we are seeing intimate and romantic. Your wedding is not the end, but the beginning
of your life together. Your wedding day should be kept in perspective and proportion
to your overall financial strategy as a couple. Yes, you want your wedding to be
special, but consider your over-all financial well being as well as your lifestyle
and the lifestyle of your guests when planning your event.
Unless you are a Trump, a Rockefeller, or otherwise have a social standing which
for some reason dictates you stage a lavish production for 500...don't do it! Don't
get caught up in the numbers game and think a "big" wedding means you must invite
everyone you ever met in your entire life. Think of having a "big" wedding that
is "big" on beauty, "big" on romance, but intimate in number.
Would you rather have your dream centerpieces on 10 tables, or have to compromise
the centerpieces to decorate 25 tables, just so you can invite those "friends" you
haven't seen since first grade, or your great-aunts, second cousin, once removed?
Think carefully when deciding your guest list.
Remember that your wedding is about the two of you starting your life together.
Think not just of the day, but of the whole life ahead of you.
4. COLORS AND FLOWERS: MIX IT UP
If you can't decide between two different color and floral themes that you absolutely
love, use both! If your ceremony and reception are in different areas, use one color
and floral theme for the ceremony and a completely different one for the reception.
Try hydrangea's and shades of blue for the ceremony, then pump up the heat for the
reception with a mixture of orange and reds; roses, carnations and tropical flowers.
Having a complete transformation between ceremony and reception is a growing trend.
It is not necessary to stick to only one theme throughout, so mix it up!
5. HIRE A LIGHTING DESIGNER
To add the perfect finishing touch and wow factor to your ceremony or reception,
hire a lighting designer. An otherwise bland ballroom can be transformed into a
winter wonderland, desert oasis, or hip nightclub. The possibilities are limitless.
The right lighting can definitely take your wedding from ordinary to wow. Want to
look like your marrying on the beach at sunset, but you can't make it to the beach;
a lighting designer can create the sunset. Our number one favorite trend in wedding
décor is no longer, location, location, location; it's Lighting Design, Lighting
Design, Lighting design!
6. MOVE OVER PARIS; HONEYMOON IN ISTANBUL
Forget Paris, the World's truly most romantic city is now Istanbul. Istanbul is
the only city in the world that straddles two continents, Europe and Asia. It has
been the home of two great empires, Byzantine and Ottoman. Emperor Constantine fell
so in love with the city that he moved the capital of the Empire from Rome and named
the city Constantinople. The beautiful Bosphorus strait divides the city between
the European side and Asian side. Enjoy an outdoor dinner on its banks, as the city
comes alive and lights up around you, or opt for a leisurely daytime cruise. Explore
ancient palaces, churches and mosques, or a Sultan's harem. Bargain in the centuries
old Grand Bazaar or shop some of Europe's biggest designer names. Enjoy Turkish
tea at a small fisherman's outpost on the Asian side, or a cocktail at some of the
hottest nightclubs in Europe. Both lovers of antiquity and seekers of urban chic,
will find much to love in this intriguing and romantic city. The French poet Alphonse
de Lamartine said, "if one had but a single glance to give the world, one should
gaze on Istanbul." We couldn't agree more!
7. THE RETURN OF THE BACKYARD WEDDING
We are drawn to the simplicity of the backyard wedding, currently seeing an increase
in popularity once again. We love the idea of BBQ, mason jars filled with daisies,
and down home style with down home simplicity. If a return to the abundance of nature
and the familial feeling it evokes appeals to you, consider a backyard wedding.
Regardless if the economy goes boom or bust, this is one tradition we hope comes
back to stay!
8. MAKE A WEDDING MOVIE
To give your wedding the look and feel of a real Hollywood Production, consider
having your wedding memorialized on film, rather than video. Film options include
Super 8, 16mm, and even 35mm. Another option is to follow the lead of real Hollywood
filmmakers and go digital. Your wedding can be shot with high definition digital
cameras and then transferred to film. Movies shot on digital video and then transferred
to film include Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire.
